My family moved to a farm just out of Arvin when I was in the 5th grade. I went to DiGeorgio School through the 8th grade and then to Arvin High for my Freshman and Sophomore years where my two accomplishments were not flunking out and having the biggest feet at the Freshman Sock Hop.
My family moved to Bakersfield the summer before our junior. I went South High as a Junior then moved to Barstow, California and did my Senior year. After graduation in June of 1960, I married and stayed in Barstow for a few years. The marriage produced two sons and an ex-wife. After some job changes and some moves I wound up in Orange County with my two sons, a new wife and her three children. Over the next 30+ years we raised the kids. Started a construction business and was successful for awhile then unsuccessful for awhile.
Opened a Skate and Surf store to give the kids a place to work while they were in school and in due course learned to surf, stayed away from skateboards because broken bones hurt too much and take to long to heal. We closed the store when the kids went off to college or got “real” jobs as they put it. 28 years ago we went into Grandparent mode with at last count 7 grandkids, 6 girls and 1 boy.
Last June Marie, my wife, died. After some job changes and some moves I’m back in Orange County and wondering what’s next.
