After graduation from high school , I married Virgil Beard Jr. We have been married for forty nine years, and were blessed with three wonderful children. Our daughter is forty eight and our son's are forty seven and thirty five. We have nine grandchildren, three girls, and six boys. All of our family still live in the Bakersfield area.
Virgil and I started several businesses, so we never really had a work schedule. We were able to spend a lot of time with our family and friends at the beach. We would take our motorhome, dune buggys, and three wheeler and camp on the beach. We would all circle our motorhomes like the old wagon trains, and build a big camp fire in the center. We also went on camping trips, where we would water ski and fish.
In 1974, Virgil and his brother Rudy started racing cars at the Bakersfield Speedway. So on most Saturday nights during racing season, we were at a race somewhere within 150 miles.
We retired in 2001, and moved to our cattle ranch in Woody, which is about thiry five miles north east of Bakersfield. Now it seem life is repeating for us, because now our oldest son, and his two son's are racing go-karts and out youngest sons, son races Jr. sprint cars. Virgil built them a practice track, and an additional track with jumps for our other grandchildren, that have motorcycles, and quadrunners. Our son inlaw has three horses for the ones who like horseback riding. But on Friday and Saturday during racing season, we are back at the races, like old times. So to sum this up, we have turned out to be hillbillys.
